Game Tuesday, May 22 ’18 (Hagonoy Gym)

(Game 1 of best-of-3 title series)

7:00 p.m. Taguig Generals vs Quezon City Stars

Quezon City snared this year’s Metro Manila Sports Fest MBT 16-and-under North Division title by beating Valenzuela 72-62 while Taguig copped the South Division crown with a humongous 64-47 upset of erstwhile undefeated Makati last Thursday at the San Isidro Covered Court, right at the Skyscrapers’ home turf.

The Stars and the Generals thus earned the right to battle for the Metro U16 Championship in a best-of-3 series which starts Tuesday at the Hagonoy Gym in Taguig.

Former Batang Gilas mainstays Miguel Tan and Ryan Yu struck hardest for Quezon City in the win over Valenzuela with the former tallying a monstrous line of 20 points, 17 rebounds and seven shotblocks while the latter finished with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Joshua Yee also delivered for the Stars with his 18 points, three assists and three steals, with 14 of his points coming in the first half.

Ivann Salinel was the only player which scored in double figures for the Workhorses with his 16 points which came with 18 boards, three dishoffs and two steals.

Angelo Torrijos led four double-digit scorers for Taguig with his 17 while Jesseyray Gian CarloArciaga, Uno del Mundo, Aimeri Acuita tallied 14, 11 and 10 markers, respectively.

Only Paul Russel Isidro finished in double figures with his 14 points for the Skyscrapers, had swept their seven games from the eliminations to the Division semis. Makati also uncharacteristically shot just 1 of 32 from three-point range and missed 13 free throws right in their homecourt.

The tournament is supported by Spurway Enterprises, World Balance, Higer Bus, Nature’s Spring Water, Globe Telecoms, Star Bread, Frabel Foods, Regan Industrial Steel, Glitter.ph, Alcoplus, Manila Bulletin, Rebel Sports, Excellent Noodles, Summit Water, Gerry’s Grill, 1-Pacman Partylist and Archie’s Bespoke Bar + Grill.
